The role of the Geological Survey of Ireland as the national geoscience
agency is to acquire data and to provide information and advice as they
relate to our earth resources. The aims are -
- To publish national geological maps at appropriate scales including
Bed-rock (21 maps and reports at scale 1:100,000); Quaternary describing
the distribution of the sediments at 1:50,000 scale; Marine at 1:250,000
scale.
- To maintain databases and provide advisory services in all programmes
(Bed-rock, Quaternary/Geotechnical, Groundwater, Minerals and Marine).
- To contribute to education in the earth sciences by, inter alia, maintaining
a public office and "Down to Earth" exhibition.
