OCEANWORLD
AQUARIUM The Aquarium "Mara Beo" is a purpose built sea-life centre which displays the fascinating variety of sea creatures that live in the waters round the beautiful Dingle Peninsula. The
overall theme reflects the sea culture of West Kerry and its people's
historic interface with the ocean from the earliest times. The visitor
makes a journey from the foot of the Brandon mountains to the deepest
sea, aided by a series of multi-media screens (which follow the journeys
of St. Brendan the Navigator). The display tanks, in which the fishes'
own habitats are scientifically simulated by continuously pumped water
from Dingle Bay, show the sea-lives of aquatic creatures which inhabit
Brandon Creek, Dingle Harbour, Dingle's shores and the deeps of the Atlantic
Ocean. Over 100 species are displayed. Apart from its fascination for
visitors, OceanWorld emphasises the need for conservation and protection
of the spectular underwater flora and fauna along Ireland's Atlantic coast. Other
